Indian Wedding Games - India Wedding Games Ideas

Modern and Traditional Wedding Games in India

Indian wedding calls for big celebrations and lots of fun and frolic. During early days, most of the marriages used to be arranged marriages and the bridal couples were not allowed to meet each other before the wedding day. The Indian wedding games were, therefore, a part of wedding celebrations to make the couple comfortable with each other and their new families. These games also involve light teasing and mockery. Now days, wedding games are used to spice up the day with fun and lighten up the mood. It is just not the Bride and Groom that take part in the games but the whole gathering participate and enjoy the wedding games.

The diversity of India is reflected in its culture and traditions; same is reflected in the wedding games as well. Every part of the country has different set of wedding games. Some of the famous Indian wedding games are hiding the shoes (Jutti Chuppai), Knotted strings, where is my heart, Pillow talk, you touch my heart and fishing the ring. Hiding the shoes is an interesting game, wherein the sisters of bride hide the shoes of the groom which he removes before entering the mandap. The groom has to pay a hefty amount to get the shoes back after series of negotiations and jocularity. The whole event becomes more interesting when groom carries an extra pair ruining all the plans of the bride’s sisters. In the pillow talk game, a pillow is held between the shoulders of the bride and the groom so they can’t see each other. The couple gives answers to every question by simply nodding their heads and this help in checking the compatibility between the couple.

Knotted string is yet another interesting game in which the bride is given a knotted string to unravel using only one hand. The groom helps the bride to unwind the knots by one hand. It is said sooner the couple unknots the string, the more easily they will face struggles in life. One more common game is fishing the ring. In this game a ring is dropped in a shallow bowl filled milk and rose petals. Thereafter the couple is asked to fish the ring. Whoever finds the ring first wins and always have an upper hand in the relationship.

The wedding games bring the joy and happiness and are a wonderful way of knowing the new families.
