Weddings in India are a gala affair and have several elements attached to it including the wedding music/songs. There are many ceremonies in Indian weddings like Mehandi, Sangeet, Baraat, Pheras, Vidaai etc and music is an integral part of every wedding ceremony. There are different kinds of music played before and during the ceremonies to set the mood and atmosphere for the wedding. In Indian weddings, the music sessions began well before the final wedding ceremony. Different types of folk music and songs are sung to lift up the spirit of the wedding.

There are several traditional songs like songs for Sangeet, Mehendi and Vidaai that are sung by the ladies that gather for several functions of the marriage.
